Dr Caitlin McDowell

Pelvic Health Physiotherapist

Physiotherapist | Women’s Health Pelvic Health | Clinical Pilates

Caitlin began her physiotherapy career in Melbourne, where she grew up. During this time, she worked across several private practice clinics specialising in exercise rehabilitation and clinical Pilates. Her interest in Pilates grew as she observed the profound impact her classes had on both the physical and emotional wellbeing of her clients. Caitlin has extensive experience teaching all forms of Pilates, including clinical, fitness reformer, mat, and pre- and postnatal classes.

Over the past five years, Caitlin has dedicated her professional focus to pelvic health — deepening her expertise in the areas of pelvic floor, menopause, pregnancy, birth, and exercise for women. Supporting and empowering women to care for their pelvic health has become one of Caitlin’s greatest passions. She has developed and presented birth and labour preparation workshops, pelvic floor education seminars, and travelled to rural and remote areas to deliver Pilates and women’s health programs.

Her masters level training in pelvic health gives her a unique, integrated perspective — enabling her to assess and treat the pelvis as a whole system. With a deep appreciation for the connection between the nervous system, muscle function, and emotional wellbeing, Caitlin’s approach honours the body’s innate capacity to restore balance when given the best oppourtunity. This perspective allows her to optimise the health of not only the internal pelvic floor muscles but also the surrounding core and hip structures and beyond.

In addition to nine years of tertiary study, Caitlin has also completed postgraduate training in women’s health, movement, and rehabilitation. Her professional development includes The Pregnant Pelvis, Birth Preparation Course, Female Athlete Symposium, Electrical Stimulation & TENS for the Pelvic Floor, WHTA 5-Day Women’s Health Course, Therapeutic Yoga Teacher Training, DMA Clinical Pilates Certification, Hip & Groin Assessment Workshop, Mastering Load Symposium, Sporting Lower Limb Course, and Running Biomechanics Workshop.

Caitlin places great importance on patient education and body awareness, ensuring every person remains at the centre of their rehabilitation journey. She strives to create a calm, supportive environment that helps her clients flourish — physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Our Story

A different kind of physiotherapy practice — built from experience, care, and community.

After more than 10 years working in private practice, and completing our master’s-level post graduate training, we began to notice a growing frustration — both in ourselves and in our patients. The more we learned, the more we realised that the traditional model of short, rushed appointments simply doesn’t allow for best practice. Patients often felt unheard, and clinicians, too, were burning out — struggling to bring their best energy and focus to every session when it might be the fifteenth appointment of the day.

We knew there had to be a better way...

So we made a change. We moved to the Far South Coast and built a practice around the kind of care we believe everyone deserves — care that takes time, honours the whole person, and allows both patient and physiotherapist to slow down and connect.

At Far South Physiotherapy & Pilates, our sessions are generous, not hurried along and more personal. We combine advanced clinical skills and evidence-based practice with a human, compassionate approach — so we can get to the root of your problem, not just manage symptoms. Our goal is to help you recover, move well, feel confident, and live a healthy, active life.

Health and wellbeing have always been a part of who we are. Angus grew up surrounded by sport and both alternative and western medicine, learning from his father’s natural health background and his mothers nursing background he developed a lifelong passion for movement and recovery. Caitlin comes from a family of nurses, where healthy food, connection, and movement were everyday values. Together, we’ve blended these influences into a holistic, science-backed approach to physiotherapy.

Our decision to settle on the Far South Coast was an easy one — we love nature, we love people, and we love this community. The slower pace, open spaces, and strong sense of belonging here align perfectly with how we live and how we practice. It’s where we’ve chosen to raise our son, surrounded by the ocean, bush, and community that inspire us daily.

We’re passionate about improving rural health care and proving that living regionally should NEVER mean settling for less. We’re incredibly proud of what we’ve created — and grateful to share it with our community.

We hope you feel seen, supported, and inspired to move well with us.
